Future career?

Hi Guys!

I often wonder what I will do “when I grow up!” I’m currently 19 and studied Computing at HNC level aswell as a media course. But I have not felt that it’s for me.

As the end of my college year approaches at a extremely fast rate I wonder “what have I acheived out of this year?”

I studied media and I have discovered that I don’t think this is the career I will pursue… although I enjoy writing I just don’t think it’s for me… Ofcourse for this reason I wonder whether I have wasted a year, I have not progressed towards my career afterall. However I think there are some things that have been truly great over the past year, I’ve met fantastic friends some of which are now my closest, I have learned general key skills and overall had a fun time and experienced new things - It’s not been a bed of roses though!

So as the year comes to an end and I relect whilst considering the future I wonder…

Who else is in a simmilar situation?

Hey Bob, How are you doing man? Hope your cool. Well, I’ve came to your blog by coincidence. I’ll tell you something because I think I have had something similar by a way or another.

I’m now in my second year studying computer science which I love a lot. But unfortunately it’s my second time in this year as I have repeated it. That’s what I want to talk about. Does that mean that I don’t like my career and studies? That was a question that I had to ask myself after last year’s failure. Then I came to realize that I do love it. However it was some circumstances and I acted silly towards some issue which led me to that. I sometimes thought to myself like “Why don’t I change university completely?”. I know may be my problem is different from yours, But sometimes when you don’t achieve things you were expecting you may think the problem is in that thing while the problem is in you. I didn’t achieve what I was looking forward too not because I don’t like but because of my weakness & laziness.

That was the point I wanted to show. Sorry for being so long. Hope I was useful :)

Hi Bob, a pretty normal problem this. But it’s made harder these days by our fixation on computers and the tendency for other people to pigeon hole us!

When I look back at my life, I find that the things which have made the biggest difference have been the things I did as a volunteer and in my own time. It’s great because you can try out new things, meet new and different people, and if you really like what you’re doing then you can create a track record on which to base future career aspirations.

If you’re thinking around these things, you may be making good use of your sub-conscious, and of creativity you didn’t know you had. If so and you want to explore further, why not have a look at my blog on Url: http://catchthevision.wordpress.com
and let me know what you think? Whatever, have a great life, it’s the best one you’re likely to get!
